Just some random tips if you are thinking of tackling a painting job yourself: – New construction, obviously paint your walls before you put down flooring – Keep a rag on you to clean any dirt that may get caught in the paint while painting (You can probably tell that I use my paints more then I should) – Go slow, painting doesn’t take long in general, so there is no rush. If you can catch all your drips and streaks before they dry, you will be thanking yourself later. If you go fast and there are streaks all over the place, they are a pain to fix afterwards. – If you do get a drip, and it is semi-dry, I would scrap it off with a razor then touch it up. – If it has dried completely, I wouldn’t recommend scraping it at this phase. Let it cure completely, then sand it down with a some very fine sandpaper (180 grit or finer). This is where a rotary or finish sander comes in handy if you have lots of drips. – Sprayer is something to look into if you are doing large areas without many windows. The section I was painting had 11 windows on the floor, therefore in my opinion it was easier to use a roller. With spraying, you’d have to put plastic over each window and tape it. I plan on using a sprayer on the first floor where there are only two windows and the two doors. – Most importantly, make sure the surface is smooth. If you want a professional job, you are going to have to touch up a bit with plaster and sand down any bumps, there is no way around it. Drywall dents very …
